Rumblings of a cranky bear

See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Color me not surprised. Fraud, waste, and abuse are endemic in the acquisitions process, and one of the reasons military contractors are such a great investment - because they will always get money from the public teat, and rely on obscurant accounting to cover up their looting of the public treasury.

So, I shouldn’t be surprised, since these chucklefucks made the same claim about elementary school kids whose classmates were killed.

But this is like, tinfoil hat level fuckery. Like, ICE contractors brought in kids as actors? Or are even the guards actors? Or are we all actors?

How long until someone blames George Soros for it? Either that, or Hillary. Because they just can’t let a good hate-on go to waste.

And a special note to people who think concentration camps are justified because immigration: there is a special place in Hell for you. Right next to the Good Germans who quietly let their neighbors get dragged off into the night, or celebrated that someone was “doing something”.

It is hard to read this without looking at my own activism and see it measure far, far short. In an era where”settling for scraps” has been the official directive of the Democratic Party, he truly puts the lie to their aura of progressivism.

I’ve hung up on more than one Democratic fundraising call when they won’t talk about the working class. When they can’t articulate how to deal with poverty. We need people with moral courage in this country, who know how to collaborate to achieve necessary reforms, but turn around and take hammer and tongs to the same politicians when needs be.

My entire life, I haven’t seen a political party that represents me. The Democrats, the LaCroix of social justice, doesn’t represent me at all - where’s my fucking pensions? Where is my living wage? Where’s the Tennessee Valley Authority level project to get broadband into rural areas?

What happened to politicians with spines?

We don’t do a good job of dealing with the demons in our midst. Too willing to give people who have behaved badly another chance. Willing to let those who abuse the public trust try and try again, because we believe in redemption.

That lazy “good will”, the coward’s position of caving to unpleasant people because we don’t want to make a fuss, or want to take money from them, is exactly the kind of social malaise that is letting the rise in authoritarianism in this country rise unchecked.

Allowing the worst attitudes to be fed, and pretending everything is okay because it’s not publicly ugly, is an abrogation of our responsibility as citizens…

Ya know, there might be a reason some people don’t like Feinstein. This is one that I hadn’t heard of until just today, and it’s pretty craven.

She had no problem cozying up with Dixiecrats in the 80s, and kept fighting activists over that flag until someone took an acetylene torch to the flagpole, ending the debate with the thud of a fallen pole.

Of course, that story went nowhere outside of the Bay Area in the 80s. It’s making a roaring comeback, though…

Thought for today

Nitpicking social justice causes as an excuse for inaction is the behavior of a coward.

Maintaining some kind of ethical ‘purity’, and refusing to engage against injustice, puts you on the side of the perpetrator. It’s a problem that shows up over and over again, of people who want to be seen as “good guys” but when the time comes to do “good guy” shit, they’re all of a sudden trying to find some reason to maintain the status quo, and not put themselves in danger.

News flash: survivors of abuse aren’t perfect. People who organize actions aren’t perfect. Complaining about that makes you an asshole.

It’s about fucking time we are having this conversation. Dealing with people acting like shitbags is something we’ve had to do, as Americans, since we started killing off the people who lived here and moving into their place. The kind of impunity they’re showing here is as old as time, and the people who enable it are straight out of a Shakespeare play.

This does not make it right. It does not make it inevitable. It makes it important that we fight against the worst parts of ourselves, to show that we’re better than that - that the Enlightenment actually means something, that we are capable of being fucking decent to each other.

It’s gross. And sickening. And it needs to stop.

Gentlemen, this is on us. It’s our responsibility to deal with those men who assume that every other guy is as shitty as they are. To shut that DOWN. And not try to take over the debate in the process.

TW: Sexual assault

This is uncomfortably graphic, and details just how fucking awful this dude was. And the worst thing? A lot of people covered for him. Or were terrified into submission by an unrelenting asshole.

It’s nasty enough to make my stomach turn. And the fact that it was normalized, that these allegations were accompanied by a shrug and a ‘what can you do?’ puts extra layers of revulsion on it.

And the worst thing is, if his star-making power hadn’t faded recently, he’d still be getting away with it. An ‘open secret’ that continued to grind up people’s dignity and self-respect in the service of one toxic asshole’s desires.

Who’d have thought? Gamergate created the poster boy for the alt-right. And he was then groomed for being a provocateur, by billionaires and their servants.

They were only successful when they looked like they were part of a spontaneous movement. Now that it’s becoming obvious that they’re cat’s paws for rich people, they’re not going to have the same pull. Enjoy this part of leading a mob, chucklefucks. They’ll pull you apart.

I’m gonna speak here as a gun owner. As someone who owns three AR-15s, one of which is a pistol (kind of an end-run around parts of the NFA itself).

Bump fire stocks are stupid. They’re a gimmick, useless for hunting or shooting sports, and are a legal workaround to get a full auto weapon by threading the needle of ATF regulations. They are, as we have now seen, fucking ideal for mass murderers.

I have a lot of friends who are also far-left gun owners. They have similar opinions. Hell, even the military doesn’t use full auto in small arms anymore - you have a machine gunner, whose job is to make the bad guys hunker down under cover while you do things, but that’s not useful in anything outside of literal armed conflict.

The “give ‘em an inch and you lose” assholes on the gun rights side really shouldn’t choose this hill to die on. The rest of us are gonna leave yer stupid asses there. This is a perfect storm of everything we were warning y’all about, and we’re sick of it. Join the rest of the country that doesn’t want to see coffins by the dozens because someone used a “range toy” to machine gun a crowd of music fans.
